Truphone, one of the earliest names in global mobile data, went through a UK insolvency process in 2022 after its previous ownership was sanctioned, and its non-sanctioned assets were bought out and restructured under a new company, now trading as 1GLOBAL. The individual-traveler product survived that shake-up as BetterRoaming, a separate consumer brand covering more than 160 countries across Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania.

Plans are fixed data packages from 1GB to 25GB with validity between 7 and 30 days, starting around $3 for the smallest bundle, and regional multi-country packs run up to $110 for 20GB over 90 days. The standout feature is device support: BetterRoaming sells eSIMs for the Apple Watch and cellular iPad as standalone devices in several countries, something most travel eSIM apps don't bother with, since most people just use their phone as a hotspot instead. It's data-only, managed through an Android app with 24/7 chat support, and it suits Apple Watch owners who want their watch to work without a paired phone, plus anyone comfortable with a lower-profile brand carrying a well-established network heritage.
